Phase 2 was commissioned quickly on the back of the success of increased student recruitment and a boost in funding following the completion of Phase 1. The two storey, steel framed building designed and constructed to meet BREEAM Excellent standards, provides 5 IT classrooms, 2 open study areas, a TV and Drama studio, 3 classrooms, a café, a technical workroom and a staff room. The design incorporates the extensive use of natural light, ventilation, solar shading and renewable energy sources that were incorporated successfully into the first phase.
Following the fantastic success of Phase 1, Prism Interiors were then also awarded Phase 2, this followed a competitive design and build tender process. Project meetings were held once a fortnight prior to commencement of deliveries to co-ordinate all trades on site including IT engineers, decorators, carpet fitters, architects and project management services to ensure all trades could work efficiently and productively within a restricted space and time scale.
A good understanding of this project has resulted in furniture solutions which maximize flexibility for students as well as teachers. Barton Peveril College made full use of Prism Interior’s design team to identify a mix of bespoke and high-end furniture to provide Barton Peveril College with a ‘future proof’ design.
In order to best provide for the broad range of media courses on offer there are IT suites for the Creative Digital students, a radio broadcasting studio and a television studio. All have fully operational production suites fitted with a future proof desking system, which has been designed and constructed to the standards required for professional production in those industries. The resulting spaces offer an excellent learning environment and have been well received by the students.
